Classes & Credits

Middle School Theatre

Eligable Grades: 6th-8th

Duration:
6th - 1 semester
7th & 8th - 2 semesters

*MS Theatre Arts counts as an extracurricular class in their schedule, not a credit.

Eligable Grades: 9th-12th

Theatre I: 1 semester, 1/2 credit
Production Tech: 1 semester, 1/2 credit

*HS students may take either theatre class both semesters.

High School Theatre

Students involved in a TCA production receive 1/2 Fine Arts credit for each completed production without having to be enrolled in a theatre class.

Classes descriptions

6th Grade
2 classes per week: 1 semester

Students are introduced to the fundamentals of theatre with an emphasis on theatre appreciation. We watch musicals, play theatre games and perform a short play at the end of the semester.

7th Grade
2 classes per week: 2 semesters

Students expand their learning of the basic fundamentals of theatre and stage performance through more advanced theatre games, scene work, and perform a short play at the end of the school year.

8th Grade
2 classes per week: 2 semesters

Students expand their learning of the basic fundamentals of theatre and stage performance through more advanced theatre games, scene work, and perform a short play at the end of the school year.

9th-12th Grade
5th hour
4 classes per week: 1 semester

For the veteran or brand new theatre student! This class is designed to enrich knowledge and skills across the spectrum of live theatre production and apply learning through class scenes and performances.

9th-12th Grade
8th hour
4 classes per week: 1 semester

This class focuses on the many technical, mechanical, design and managements elements of stage performance and production. Students develop vocabulary and knowledge in the areas of scenery, props, costumes, makeup, lighting and sound.

Credits outside of class

Productions

Students who fully participate from beginning to end in a TCA Musical or Play will receive 1/2 credit toward their graduation plan.

ITS Honors

TCA Theatre students can accumulate points toward induction into the International Thespian Society. Theatre participation outside of school equals 1 point. 10 points must be earned for induction.

Lettering

In order for a TCA Student to letter in Theatre Arts, a minimum of 300 documented hours of theatre work outside of class must be earned at the high school level.

Theatre Arts Officers Descriptions

President

Oversee the responsibilities of all drama club officers.

Collaborate with volunteer parent to organize the drama club.

Oversee any events the drama club undertake during the year.

Vice-President

Assist the President in a variety of ways.

Act in the position of the President if the need arises.

Promote club membership and keep records.

Secretary

Keep an organized file of contact information and records for all drama club member and theatre arts student, including meeting attendance.

Send out reminders to club members.

Maintain alumni contact list.

Social Officer

Responsible to plan and organize two social events for the drama club during the school year.

Keep a record of photos of the year, including rehearsals and performances.

Responsible for creating and maintaining a TCA Theatre social media page.
